Video game journalist, community advocate, and the founder of Minus Marco, a platform built to amplify underrepresented voices in gaming.
"The expansion pack to your game."
Just like downloadable content enhances a game you already love, Minus Marco is supplementary, built to deepen the stories already being told, not to compete with them. The journalism stays in front. The story comes first.
Marco grew up in Central California's agricultural heartland, in a Mexican-immigrant household where video games were more than entertainment. They were a portal. It started with Marvel vs. Capcom on PlayStation and never really stopped.
Marco studied journalism at Fresno City College before earning a BA in Media, Communications & Journalism from Fresno State, specializing in advertising and PR. He's applied that craft everywhere from The Collegian and The Rampage to the City of Fresno's marketing office.
Minus Marco exists to inform, represent, and build a future for youth, minority, and smaller communities in and around the gaming industry. Gaming culture shaped Marco. Now he's trying to make sure it reflects the people who love it most.
Reviews, essays, opinion pieces, and video content spanning Substack, YouTube, and social media. Every piece is written with the same goal: bridge the gap between the gaming industry and the communities that have been overlooked by it.
Mission
Agriculture. Immigration. Minority communities. These are the backgrounds that built the people who play games. They deserve to see themselves in the press that covers it.
